What is microsurgery?

Pioneered at The Buncke Clinic:

Microsurgery is verly loosely defined as surgery requiring an operating microscope. In fact it encompasses much more than this simple definition. The specialty itself is two parts surgical science, one part art and is directed by an experienced microsurgeon to assist in the recovery and healing of a wide array of medical issues, from emergency amputations to reconstoration of the human breast.

The microsurgery service at The Buncke Clinic began in 1970 after Harry Buncke took delivery of the second operating diploscope in North America. We pioneered microsurgery right here in San Francisco starting with Harry Buncke's work and continuing today with the most advanced microsurgical techniques available.
